NEW DELHI, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- At least eight people were killed and 53 others injured Saturday evening in an apparent terrorist attack at a landmark German Bakery in a wealthy district in the western Indian city of Pune, said a senior Indian official and police.

Among the killed were three foreigners, said police.

Indian Home Secretary G.K. Pillai told the media in the national capital that "as of now, it appears it was a terror attack".

Police said earlier they suspected the blast was caused by a bomb as the force of the explosion was so great it engulfed the whole backery and trapped many victims.

At least five fire engines were sent to the scene to put off the fire.

The Pune Anti-Terrorist Squad and the Bomb Disposal Squad have also rushed to scene, while a team of the Mumbai Anti-terrorism squad is also going to Pune.
