国际英语新闻:Moussa: Israel has to bear resistance as it continues
SIRTE, Libya, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa said here Thursday that as long as Israel continues occupation of Palestinian territories, it should tolerate more rejection, hostility and resistance.
In a press conference following a preparatory meeting at the level of foreign ministers for the upcoming Arab summit, Moussa said Israel is above the law, emphasizing that the Arabs are ready to proceed with peace but it seems Israel is not.
Condemning the continued Israeli settlement construction, Moussa said, "We do not accept the continuation of settlements. This is the crucial point as if occupation continues in the West Bank and Jerusalem, this means there is no state and the negotiations are useless."
Moussa said a meeting will be held on Friday between the Arab Peace Initiative Committee and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, where discussion will cover whether to extend a 120-day time frame to start indirect talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
The chief of the 22-member pan-Arab bloc said all Israeli measures in Jerusalem are illegal and East Jerusalem is the capital of the future Palestinian state regardless of what happens, noting that the Israeli measures are in defiance of U.S., EU, global and Arab policies.
On efforts to realize Palestinian reconciliation, he said all countries underlined the need to proceed with these efforts, stressing that the inter-Palestinian conflict is dangerous and it harmed the Palestinian issue.
