国际英语新闻:Lamy says Doha Round not in "final game" yet
GENEVA, March 26 (Xinhua) -- The Doha Round of global trade negotiations is not in its "final game" yet despite renewed determination by World Trade Organization (WTO) members to push for its conclusion, director general of the body Pascal Lamy said on Friday.
"The outcome is that we are not where we wanted to be ... we made some limited progress since 2008 but obviously not enough to enter into the final game, which will take some time," Lamy told reporters following a week of so-called stocktaking of the Doha Round situation by WTO members.
Lamy said he had held "constructive, honest and, above all, lucid" consultations with regional groups, small groups and individual members, but "no one suggested a miracle recipe."
However, he said all WTO members reiterated their commitment to the development mandate of the Doha Round and to its successful conclusion.
"Not a single delegation has suggested that we drop the ball, and no delegation has suggested that we take any sort of timeout form the negotiations," he said.
"The message I take from this week's stocktaking is one of realism and resolve. Our road has been a long one. We are not yet at the end, but we are pressing on with determination, in the assurance that the prize is worth the effort," the WTO chief earlier told a full-member meeting generalizing the outcome of the one-week discussions.
