国际英语新闻:Greek PM: Nobody can play games against euro after latest Eurogroup decision
ATHENS, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou said Sunday that nobody can play games against the common currency after latest Eurogroup decision on aid mechanism to Greece.
Papadreou expressed his country's satisfaction with the decision reached by Eurogroup in an urgent teleconference on Sunday, when he arrived in Cyprus for a visit on Sunday afternoon.
"Today the safety net for Greece we talked about on the EU Summit on March 25 took a clear format. European solidarity was reaffirmed. It is an important decision for Greece and the EU. Europe sends a clear message," Papandreou said.
The Greek premier reassured Greek citizens that through the efforts made today, the country will overcome the deep economic crisis and will return on the path of growth, prosperity and social justice.
As it was announced by the Greek Prime Minister's office before the Eurogroup teleconference, Papandreou held a series of telephone conversations with the EU President Herman van Rompuy, the EU Commission head Jos Manuel Durao Barroso and the President of Eurogroup, Jean-Claude Juncker.
Regarding the Cyprus issue which is the reason why he paid a two-day visit in Cyprus, Papandreou said that Greece will stand by the Cypriot people with actions, not just words.
"I am here again to send the same message. We will never stop the efforts for a just and viable solution for the Cyprus issue," Papandreou stressed.
The Greek premier will have consultations with the Cypriot political leadership on the course of negotiations for a solution, ahead of the forthcoming elections on the northern part of the divided island.
