国际英语新闻:Kyrgyz interim government considers arresting Bakiyev
BISHKEK, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyz interim government is considering to arrest President Kurmanbek Bakiyev and put him on trial, Roza Otunbayeva, leader of the interim government, said on Sunday.
Meanwhile Bakiyev said Sunday that he will not resign but was ready to talk to the interim government. He insisted he did not recognize the legitimacy of the interim government.
Bakiyev also called for UN peacekeepers to guarantee peace in his country.
Three days after violent unrest broke out in the capital city of Kyrgyzstan, the situation began to calm down on Saturday.
Earlier last week, thousands of protesters clashed with security forces throughout the country, driving out local governments and seizing government headquarters in Bishkek. At least 79 people died in the unrest.
Bakiyev fled to the south and opposition parties formed an interim government led by Roza Otunbayeva, former foreign minister.
