国际英语新闻：U.S. urged to build confidence with DPRK

PYONGYANG, April 14 (Xinhua) -- The Rodong Sinmun newspaper of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Wednesday released a commentary urging the U.S. to build confidence with the DPRK in order to put the process of the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula back on track.

In the commentary, the paper said the fact that the U.S. and Russia recently signed a new treaty on reducing and restricting nuclear weapons showed denuclearization is possible on the condition of trusting each other.

Stopping the state of war and hostile relations is a task of top priority to promote the denuclearization process, the commentary said, noting that launching the denuclearization process before discussing the issue of establishing a peacekeeping mechanism on the Korean Peninsula was proven to be a failure.

To conclude a peace treaty is the only reasonable way for the successful denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and there is no doubt that just a start of the negotiations for concluding a peace treaty would provide a driving force for promoting the process of denuclearization, the commentary said.

If the U.S. truly hopes for the denuclearization of the peninsula, it should stop insisting the DPRK "dismantle its nuclear weapons first," the commentary said.
