WASHINGTON, April 20 (Xinhua) -- U.S. police on Tuesday identified the suspected gunman in a hospital shooting in Knoxville, Tennessee, the previous day. The gunman was a naturalized citizen originated from Ethiopia, and has a history of mental illness.
Reports quoted Knoxville Police Chief Sterling Owen as saying the gunman was Abdo Ibssa. He walked into the Parkwest Medical Center on Monday, and opened fire, killing one hospital worker and wounding two others. He then shot himself.
Owen said Ibssa had a mental illness history. His family had him committed mental treatment in February.
The shooting took place at the hospital's patient discharge area in Monday afternoon. After the shooting, the police sealed off the hospital, and found the victims and the suspected shooter' s body.
