国际英语新闻:Energy competition will not lead to world war: expert
PARIS, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Just before the 65th anniversary of the Victory Day in Europe, which is celebrated on May 8, an American energy expert said here resource competition won't led to another world war, which belongs to the history and only proved the vainness of military option.
"I think we've passed that," said the former US ambassador William C. Ramsay, who is now the Energy Program Director of the French Institute of International Relations.
When commenting on the World War in an interview with Xinhua recently, the once Deputy Executive Director of International Energy Agency, a Paris-based French thinktank, explained the issue from the angle of geopolitics of energy.
"I think the World War II speaks for itself people understood that just didn't work," he said.
In his opinion, though the conflict of resources still exists in nowadays world like before, people are more reasonable and there are other solutions to water down anxiety and conflicts.
"There are multiple drivers and there were resource race in there, and there was resource anxiety in there. But it became clear that the World War II didn't resolve any of that for anybody," he indicated, and suggested to take better way to deal with even conflicts over resources, instead of warfare.
"The real way of dealing with resources is to create markets where people can have access to resources, where people don't get discriminated against, or people can get their own investment if they choose," he said.
The Victory Day in Europe was on May 8, 1945, the date when the World War II Allies formally accepted the unconditional surrender of the armed forces of Nazi Germany.
