国际英语新闻:Pakistani ambassador injured in Tehran attack
TEHRAN, May 11 (Xinhua) -- The Pakistani ambassador in Iran was slightly injured in an assassination attempt after his car was attacked in Tehran, local semi-official Press TV reported on Tuesday.
Mohammad Bakhsh Abbasim, the Pakistani ambassador in Iran, was taken to hospital after the attack, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast was quoted by Press TV as saying.
"The Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attack. The person behind the attack was arrested," Ramin Mehmanparast said.
The spokesman said the attack occurred when the ambassador was on his way back home in a street in northern Tehran.
The attacker, who is believed to be an Afghan citizen, has been arrested. Press TV's report did not mention the reason behind the attack.
The Pakistani Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit has confirmed the attack on Abbasim but said the ambassador is safe.
He also denied rumors that the ambassador's two guards were killed in the attack, adding that the attacker had tried to stab Abbasim but was intercepted by the guards.
