国际英语新闻:Multinational military drill to be held in eastern Romania
BUCHAREST, May 13 (Xinhua) -- More than 300 Romanian, U.S., Ukrainian and Macedonian troops will participate from May 17-June 24 in "the Black Sea Rotational Force 2010" drill organized in eastern Romania, according to a news release on Thurday from the Romanian Navy General Staff.
The drill, organized in Constanta (south-east) and Tulcea (east) in cooperation with the U.S. Marine Corps Forces-Europe, is aimed at strengthening regional cooperation relations among the armies of the participating states, by training troops in peacekeeping operations, said Cpt. Commander Mugurel Pascu, press officer of the Romanian Navy General Staff.
During the drill, the troops will also conduct military-to- military familiarization events in nations throughout the region in specialties including nonlethal weapon use, military intelligence and noncommissioned officer development.
"The participating troops will train at the Mihail Kogalniceanu garrison, Constanta County, and in the Babadag shooting range located in the Tulcea County," said Pascu, adding that Romania participates in the drill with more than 150 Navy, Land and Air Force troops.
Black Sea Rotational Force is a multi-year program where U.S. Marine Corps units based in the continental United States perform rotational deployments to U.S. military bases on the Black Sea.
Earlier this month, more than 100 Marines from across the United States put boots on the ground in Romania and stepped into history as the first Security Cooperation Marine Air-Ground Task Force in the Black Sea region.
The Marines were deployed to build partnerships with nations in the Black Sea, Balkan and Caucasus regions, and build the military training capacity of European armed forces training with U.S. troops.
