BANGKOK, May 22 (Xinhua) -- A huge number of weapons, found after security forces dispersed the anti-government protesters in central Bangkok, were displayed to foreign diplomats from 51 countries on Saturday.

Apart from the foreign diplomats, both Thai and foreign media were present at a press conference, which was held by the Center for the Resolution of Emergency Situation (CRES) to display the weapons and explain the recent security operations.

The CRES, which is set up by the government to deal with emergency, said troops had found several assault rifles, ammunition, grenades and crude homemade bombs after the violent movement, which ended on May 19.

"Though the protesters always deny possessing the weapons, after the rally ended we have found a lot of the lethal weapons when checking the main rally site Rajprasong Intersection," Deputy Premier in charge of security affairs Suthep Thaugsuban told the press conference.

The security forces found M79 grenade launchers and M16 assault rifles, Suthep cited.

Speaking at the 11th Infantry Regiment in north Bangkok, where the CRES is located, Suthep said "terrorists had used these weapons to attack security forces and innocent people."

Moreover, Doctor Porntip Rojanasunan, Thailand's top forensic scientist disclosed that car bombs were discovered at four separated places nearby the main protest site.
