国际英语新闻:Belarus promises no interruption in Russian gas transit to Europe
MOSCOW, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Belarus will continue to provide uninterrupted transit of Russian gas to Europe despite the gas cut by Russia, a spokeswoman for the Belorussian Energy Ministry said on Monday.
"Despite the fact that the Gazprom has imposed a 15-percent cut on gas supplies to Belarus, the Energy Ministry is taking measures to ensure uninterrupted transit," Lyudmila Zenkovich was quoted by RIA Novosti news agency as saying.
Meanwhile, Sergei Kupriyanov, spokesman of Russian gas giant Gazprom, told Russian media that the gas transits to Europe will remain unaffected.
Earlier on Monday, Gazprom started cutting gas flow to Belarus, under the order of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
The decision was made after Belarus refused to pay some 200 million U.S. dollars owned to Russia over gas supplies.
