国际英语新闻:EAC secretary general urges more efforts for Common Market

2010-06-25来源:和谐英语

DAR ES SALAAM, June 24 (Xinhua) -- The East African Community (EAC) Secretary General Juma Mwapachu on Thursday called on the EAC partner states to exploit all available opportunities to make the Common Market work for them and for the better livelihoods of all citizens of the EAC.

Mwapachu made the appeal in a statement released by the EAC Secretariat based in Arusha in northeast Tanzania on commencement of the EAC Common Market on July 1.

"1st July 2010 marks the commencement of the operationalization of the East African Community (EAC) Common Market. Following the completion of the ratification of the Protocol on the Common Market, the complex and long march towards transforming the EAC region into a Common or Single Market begins with resolve and fervour," Mwapachu said in the statement.

The EAC secretary general stressed that the operationalization of the Common Market is a process, which itself is complex in terms of what is required to be undertaken at the levels of the Partner States and, in certain respects, at the level of the EAC itself.

He also underscored the importance for the citizens of the East African Community Partner States and the economic players in the EAC region to have a clear understanding of what July 1 holds and portends, which is a historic one and is deservedly celebratory as a milestone for the EAC.
