BANGKOK, June 30 (Xinhua) -- The Thai government is determined to implement its national reconciliation plan regardless of any naysayers, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of security Suthep Thaugsuban said on Wednesday.

Suthep's comment came after former Prime Minister and coalition Chart Thai Pattana Party chief advisor Banharn Silpa-archa said the government's reconciliation plan would fail.

The government is undeterred because Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has a clear intention to bring about peace and reconciliation in the country, Suthep said, quoted by the Bangkok Post's website.

"The prime minister is doing his best to meet this objective," the deputy premier said.

It was normal there are doubters since people in the government also believed it was a difficult task, "but if we don't do anything, nothing will succeed," he said.

Suthep said he had always listened to Banharn's advice and he would meet the political veteran when he had free time.

Asked if the government would allocate as much as 600 million baht (18.5 million U.S. dollars) for two national reform committees, Suthep said the budget could be over 600 million baht if it would bring peace to the country.

"The buildings that were set ablaze (by anti-government rioters last month) were worth more than 600 million baht," he said.
