国际英语新闻:Dollar hits 15-year low against Yen amid European banking concern
NEW YORK, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Japanese yen hit 15-year high against U.S. dollar on Tuesday in New York trading amid fear about the European banking system's health, while dollar also climbed against major currencies.
A report from Wall Street Journal indicated that the risk of European bank holding government bond may be underestimated though most of the banks passed the recent stress test. It triggered the risk aversion appetite in the market and investors rushed to seek safe heaven investment like the dollar and yen.
The dollar hit a 15-year low against yen while buying more of other major currencies. The euro slid more that one percent against dollar in two weeks.
In late Tuesday trading, the dollar bought 83.79 Japanese yen from 84.20 yen on late Friday while the euro slid to 1.2702 dollars from 1.2877 dollars.
In other trading, the British pound fell to 1.5344 dollars from 1.5399 dollars. The dollar slid from 1.0127 to 1.0096 against Swiss francs, but bought 1.0473 Canadian dollars from 1.0354 Canadian dollars on late Friday.
