国际英语新闻:IAEA meeting begins with row over nuclear inspectors in Iran
VIENNA, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) started its week-long Board of Governor meeting on Monday with the agency and an Iranian diplomat exchanging criticisms over the picking of nuclear inspectors in Iran.
"Iran's repeated objection to the designation of inspectors with experience in Iran's nuclear fuel cycle and facilities hampers the inspection process," said IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano while presenting his report on Iranian issues at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna.
In June, Iran banned two IAEA inspectors from visiting its nuclear facilities on the grounds that they had filed false information on the country's nuclear program.
Amano told a press conference after the morning session that nuclear inspection experts take years of training and experience in inspection works, and he has full confidence in their ability and professionalism. Repeated rejection of them will be " problematic" on the effectiveness of implementing NPT safeguards, he added.
Iranian ambassador to IAEA Soltanieh dismissed the agency's criticism as "completely illogical," saying IAEA could find substitutes for the inspectors out of a list of more than 150 inspectors.
The Iranian diplomat told reporters that a very important and clear point in all past and present IAEA reports is that they have confirmed that no proof has been found to show that nuclear installations in Iran are military oriented.
