"We reaffirm our resolve to work together for the promotion of the economic and social advancement of all peoples," it said.
"We recognize the progress, including on poverty eradication, is being made despite setbacks, including setbacks caused by the financial and economic crisis," the document said.
Side events and roundtables on water and sanitation, HIV/AIDS and biodiversity took place on the sidelines of the three-day conference.
On Wednesday, the secretary-general unveiled a global strategy for improving women's and children's health, with study after study indicating that a boost in this area will have an enormous multiplier effect across all the MDGs.
"This summit has laid a solid foundation for the progress we need in our quest to achieve the Millennium Development Goals by the internationally agreed deadline of 2015," UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in his closing remarks at the high-level meeting.
"Through the participation of a large number of heads of state and government as well as leaders from civil society, the private sector and the philanthropic community, this event has galvanized worldwide attention," he said.
"The summit outcome document sends a clear sign that you remain committed to the goals even in a difficult international environment," Ban said.
