国际英语新闻:Haneya calls for unity with Fatah
GAZA, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Deposed Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haneya on Tuesday called for sharing "political and security" sectors with President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah movement.
Since the Hamas routed pro-Abbas forces in June 2007, the Islamic movement has been ruling the Gaza Strip while the Fatah- dominated Palestinian National Authority (PNA) controls the West Bank among political separation, added to the geographic cut between the two sides.
"Reconciliation is the only passage to restore unity and enabling the Palestinian people to face challenges," Haneya said in a televised speech marking the 10th anniversary of the second Palestinian uprising, better known as the Intifada.

Haneya, leader of Hamas called on Tuesday to political and security cooperation with Fatah movement to achieve the national reconciliation. |
He welcomed the "positive" efforts resumed recently between the two sides to broker reconciliation, after Fatah officials met the Damascus-based Hamas leaders and agreed to meet again to overcome differences that delay the agreement.
The efforts have been focused on finding a compromise making the Hamas to sign an Egyptian plan for reconciliation while considering its reservations involving security, elections and the future of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
Meanwhile, Haneya said armed resistance will continue "because it is a legitimate right as long as there is an occupation on our land." He also slammed the U.S.-brokered direct peace negotiations resumed at the beginning of this month, saying the negotiations " will increase the exhaustion of the Palestinian people."
He reiterated that the Hamas, which doesn't recognize Israel, can at least accept a Palestinian statehood on the lands that Israel has occupied since 1967, with Jerusalem being the capital and the return of the refugees.
