Both nations aimed to save money through greater cooperation on air-to-air refueling, airborne logistical transport planes, nuclear-powered submarine research, and satellite communications.
They also agreed to jointly develop a new generation of unmanned military aircraft, as well as to seek "savings of up to 30 percent" in a 10-year plan to increase cooperation in and rationalize aspects of British and French conventional weapons development.
The two nations agreed to cooperate more fully on cyber- security and combating international terrorism. Asked about fighting terrorists, Sarkozy said "Our vigilance is total, we are working with allies on an hour-by-hour basis."
Cameron said that the two nation's openness and interconnectedness were the sources "of strength, solidarity, and power which will result in the defeat of terrorism".
