AMMAN, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian National Authority (PNA) President Mahmoud Abbas said here Sunday that the United States is expected to announce a proposal in the coming few days to resume the stalled Palestinian-Israeli talks.

In his remarks to the press in Amman following his meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan on Sunday, the Palestinian leader said he agreed with the Jordanian leader to continue coordination and consultation in light of the expected U.S. proposal.

"It is necessary that we study the proposal together," Abbas said.

During their meeting, the two leaders discussed the latest efforts in removing obstacles to resume serious and effective Palestinian-Israeli talks that address all final status issues.

The two leaders stressed the need for intensified efforts by the international community to present practical proposals to revitalize peace efforts and make progress towards the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital as soon as possible.

The PNA withdrew from direct talks with Israel in September after the Israeli government failed to extend a moratorium on the building of settlements in the West Bank that expired on Sept. 26.
