国际英语新闻:Twitter raises 200 million dollars in new funding
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Twitter has raised 200 million U.S. dollars of new funding, a big financial boost for the microblogging service, U.S. media reported on Wednesday.
In a blog post, Twitter's chief executive officer (CEO) Dick Costolo announced the closing of "a significant new round of funding" without revealing the exact amount.
According to a report by All Things Digital, a technology blog website affiliated with The Wall Street Journal, the new funding totaled 200 million dollars.
"A big slug of cash will surely help the start-up's expansion efforts," the report noted.
The new financing brings Twitter's total funding to 360 million dollars since it was founded about five years ago.
The latest round of funding was led by Kleiner Perkins Caulfield Byers (KPCB), a major Silicon Valley venture capital firm.
It was reported that KPCB, as a new investor, put in 150 million dollars, with the remaining 50 million dollars coming from existing investors.
Along with the new investment, Twitter on Wednesday said that it has added two new members to its board, Flipboard's CEO Mike McCue and former DoubleClick head David Rosenblatt.
In his blog post, Costolo also provided some updates on Twitter 's growth, saying that it added more than 100 million new registered accounts in the past 12 months, with its staff increasing from 130 to over 350 people.
