国际英语新闻:Russian, DPRK diplomats discuss situation on Korean peninsula
MOSCOW, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Diplomats of Russia and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) met here Tuesday and discussed possible measures to stabilize the situation on Korean peninsula.
During the meeting with the DPRK ambassador to Moscow Kim Yong Jae, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Borodavkin stressed that Russia is seeking "solutions to the issues between Pyongyang and Seoul by political-diplomatic ways," according to a statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Russia reaffirmed its commitment to the resumption of the six- party talks with the aim of settling the nuclear problem of the Korean Peninsula, the statement says.
Kim informed Borodavkin about DPRK's opinion of the current regional situation and further prospects.
The situation on the peninsula was getting tense after an exchange of artillery fire on Nov. 23 between the ROK and the DPRK, which killed four people. A joint drill was staged by South Korea and the United States from Nov. 28 to Dec. 1, and a combined military exercise was held by Japan and the U.S. from Dec. 3 to 10.
