国际英语新闻:Protesters rally against WEF meeting in Davos
DAVOS, Switzerland, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Some 200 protesters on Saturday rallied here to protest against the ongoing annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF).
The protesters, most of them young people, gathered at a downtown church near the Davos city railway station. Marching along the streets around the main conference venue, they called for the forum to stop empty talk and take practical actions to improve the current state of the world.
Playing loud music and songs, the protesters chanted slogans such as "Anti-WEF," "One Solution, One Revolution," "Stop Talking, Take action," "Rebuild World Economy," "Better Job, Better Life," etc.
"Over the past forty years, we have spent too much money on the World Economic Forum," said a protester identified as Urik to Xinhua.
"Davos forum has proved that the world's old policy has failed. We call on the Forum to stop talking, immediately take pragmatic actions to improve global economy, to establish a new world order and restore economic growth and better our lives," Urik said.
After nearly two hours, all the protesters peacefully left the main conference site, which was guarded by the police.
