国际英语新闻:Iran says U.S. treatment of nuke deal "desperate attempt"

TEHRAN, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said U.S. President Donald Trump's Friday announcement over 2015 international nuclear deal is a "desperate attempt."

"Trump's policy and today's announcement amount to desperate attempts to undermine a solid multilateral agreement, maliciously violating its paras. 26, 28 and 29," Zarif tweeted.

"JCOPA is not renegotiable; rather than repeating tired rhetoric, the U.S. must bring itself to full compliance, just like Iran," he said.

On Friday, a senior Trump administration official said Trump will extend sanctions relief on Iran under the 2015 nuclear deal, while warning that it will be the last waiver.

Trump is seeking for an overhaul of the landmark deal with the European countries in the next 120 days, or he will pull the United States out of the multilateral pact, the official said.

As Trump agreed to the sanctions relief, the U.S. Department of Treasury said on Friday that it has imposed sanctions on 14 individuals and entities over Iran's alleged human rights abuses and ballistic missile program.

Trump, who has more than once threatened to scrap the Iran nuclear deal inked by the six world powers and Iran in 2015, decertified to the Congress Iran's compliance with the pact last October.

Iran has categorically dismissed the U.S. threats.
