The oldest living giant panda will turn 30 next month on November 30th. Basi is well-known for being the prototype of the mascot, "Panpan" , from the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing.

Children from across the Taiwan straits came to look in on Basi, and to celebrate her coming birthday.

Basi has already lived quite a long time, especially when you consider that the average life span of a wild giant panda is only 12 years. When the children walked into Panda World in the capital city of east China's Fujian Province, Basi was eating her meal, which is primarily fresh bamboo. All the children were very excited to see their beloved Basi. Some of them begin to paint pictures as their own personal way to celebrate Basi's big day.

A visitor from Taiwan said, "I hope Basi will have lots of friends to celebrate her birthday so I drew a few pandas on my picture."

It is not clear if Basi appreciated what the children had done for her, but she may have felt the love they have for her.

A visitor from Taiwan said, "I drew lots of presents on the pictures, I think on Basi's Birthday, she should have lots of sweet presents."

Painters from Taiwan were also moved by the children's actions. They also sent their best wishes by drawing some pictures for Basi.

Shin-Lai-Fu, Taiwan painter, said, "I feel warm when I see Basi, just like I saw "Tuan Tuan" and " Yuan Yuan", which are two giant pandas living in Taiwan. I feel that people from across the straits are members from the same big family."

Children from Taiwan also miss "Tuan Tuan" and "Yuan Yuan", so some of them drew all three pandas in the same picture. All of them wish Basi a very Happy Birthday.
