Tire-maker Kumho has admitted to using excess recycled rubber at its Tianjin plant. The tire maker's China director Li Hanxie spoke to CCTV, saying the company has penalized those involved, and will call back faulty tyres produced by the plant.
Li says after media reports were published, the company launched its own investigation. The probe confirmed reports the Tianjin plant used more recycled rubber from semi-finished tires than allowed under its own guidelines, to save on costs. And that's led to quality problems with some tyres.
The tyre maker says it's required the Tianjin plant to penalized those responsible.
Li Hanxie, Director of Kumho China said "We've let go of some of the Tianjin plant's officials, including the general manger, as they failed to manage and supervise properly. We have decided to call back all the faulty tyres made by the factory. We also pledge to deal with customer complaints regarding tyre quality in a timely manner."
The company has also apologized to consumers for the misconduct. He says the company will work to prevent future occurrence of such incidents.
