贝克汉姆为巴黎球队免费“打工”?
British football star and former England captain David Beckham has finally made his decision. The 37-year-old joined French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain and says his salary will go towards a local childrens' charity.
Former England captain David Beckham, who won 115 caps, completed his move to Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday and said he had to turn down offers from England because he could not bear to face Manchester United.
Why PSG? Midfielder David Beckham said, “Because every club I’ve played for throughout the world, I’ve been successful with. I’ve been successful with Manchester United and I’ve always said that I would never want to play for another English club. Because I have a lot of history with Manchester United. It’s the team that I support, it’s the team that I always dreamt of playing for and I always said that unless it was Manchester United, I wouldn’t want to play for any premiership team."
The 37-year-old revealed he will play without a salary at PSG, instead he will donate what he would have earned to a children’s charity in Paris. He has signed a five-month contract and confirmed that the presence of Carlo Ancelotti and Leonardo, the head coach and sporting director, had persuaded him to join the wealthy French giants.
David Beckham said, "I don’t see that it’s a short-term project. It might be a short-term project for me playing, but there is lot that’s happening in this club and with these owners. And wherever I’ve gone in the world, whatever team I’ve played for, I’m 150 percent committed."
Beckham has played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, LA Galaxy and the England national team for which he holds the appearance record for an midfield player.
Beckham’s professional career began with Manchester United, and he won the Premier League title six times, the FA Cup twice, and the UEFA Champions League in 1999.
Beckham signed Real Madrid in 2003, where he remained for four seasons, winning the La Liga championship in his final season with the club.
In January 2007, the former England Captain struck a deal with Major League Soccer club Los Angeles Galaxy, signing a five-year contract. With Galaxy, he joined a select group of players to win titles in three countries.
Beckham said, "You know I am very lucky throughout my career. I am very lucky to have achieved what I achieved and earned what I have earned throughout my career.”
From the day a teenaged Beckham scored a goal from inside his own half for Manchester United in 1996, most of his career has been spent scaling dizzy heights. While never blessed with lightning pace, nor the tricks of Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, Beckham’s tireless energy, trademark free-kicks and ability to deliver crosses on a coin, made him a potent force.
