Recalling history.

On August 15th, there are more visitors to this museum than usual.

It commemorates the Chinese War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.

"You should draw lessons from the past. We should stay peaceful and friendly. That’s the best cooperation. But if you keep making trouble, China is not that easy to bully. " said by daughter of late CPC commander killed in war of resistance.

China and Japan signed a treaty of Peace and Friendship 35 years ago.

On its anniversary this Monday, China said relations with Japan are at a difficult stage, but both sides can get back to a normal footing if the principles of the original treaty are followed. Japan also says it’s willing to improve ties with China.

“On policies, both sides want to return to a cooperative relationship with each other, and to solve disputes through peaceful means. But conflicts between China and Japan are complicated. Currently it’s the Diaoyu Island issue. There is also a collision of development strategies, geopolitical conflicts, and a reciprocal distrust in strategic thinkings." said Prof. Yang Bojiang, expert in Japan studies.

Earlier this month, Japan unveiled a vessel capable of carrying 14 helicopters, the biggest warship produced by the country since World War Two.

China’s Defense Ministry criticized the new vessel, and advised countries in the region to be on high alert.

Experts say Japan has been taking advantage of the US’ strategic rebalancing toward the Asia-Pacific to develop its own military capabilities.

The animosity between China and Japan has affected their peoples. A survey released this month shows that 93 percent of Chinese respondents hold a negative attitude toward Japan. And 90 percent of Japanese respondents have negative feelings toward China. The two main reasons are territorial issues and war history.
