超级台风“天兔”降为热带风暴
China's Central Meteorological Station has downgraded super Typhoon Usagi to a tropical storm after making landfall in Shanwei city in South China's Guangdong province.
The typhoon is moving northwest at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour. Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan and Guizhou are set to receive heavy rains.
So far, tropical storm Usagi has killed 25 people since making landfall on Sunday evening in Guangdong province. The storm brought powerful winds and torrential rain. Rain and big waves have inundated Shantou with highest water levels of one meter.
Electricity and water supply have been cut off and houses toppled. Intercity trains between Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhuhai were suspended and nearly 50 trains, including those along the high-speed lines to Beijing, Shenzhen and Hong Kong, will remain suspended until Tuesday.
Hundreds of flights from Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong have also been cancelled. Schools in 12 coastal cities have suspended classes.
