Syria has met a major deadline for the destruction of its chemical weapons, submitting a plan for their removal to the world's chemical weapons watchdog, OPCW. China has voiced its support for OPCW’s work.

"China supports the positive role of OPCW in the review and the destruction of Syrian chemical weapons. We will take an active part in OPCW’s efforts and talks at the organization’s executive council, to ensure the implementation of the council’s decisions." Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said.
