As the seven day Spring Festival holiday nears a close, millions of people have wrapped up their family reunions and are taking some time to travel before they return to work this weekend.

The holiday spirit is in the air. In China’s Henan province, the Shaolin temple -- made famous in Kungfu movies -- is bracing itself to host 150, 000 visitors during the Golden Week.

"We were inspired by the film ’Shaolin Temple’ in the 1980s. Today I brought my parents here to take in some martial arts culture."

Tropical rain forests and exotic architecture in southwest Yunnan province have long been a northerner’s elixur for the winter blues. Along with the garden-like setting in Xishuangbanna, another tourist draw are the enticing rituals of the Dai ethnic minority which hosts its famous winter water splashing festival this week.

The east China’s Anhui province, Huangshan mountain, a Unesco World Heritage site, has also been overwhelmed with visitors. On Monday alone, more than 32,000 tourists visited the mountain which has hosted 90,000 visitors since the holiday week began. Local authorities have kept on cleaning up the inevitable mess.

"We’re collecting 40 tons of garbage a day, twice as much as usual. We’ve also added 30 sanitation workers who are working from 6am to 8pm this week." Chen Songwei, Management  Officer of Huangshan Mountain Resort said.

The China Tourism Academy says an expected 225 million domestic tourists will spend 130 billion yuan during Spring Festival 2014.
