The Bundesliga is still two weeks away -- but the league's defending champs -- Bayern Munich are busy preparing for the campaign. The Bavarians went through a light practice session, but opened the doors for their fans to show their appreciation, for supporting them during last year's winning campaign.

Before the squad took to the pitch to show off their skills, they were introduced in front a capacity crowd at the Allianz Arena -- that included new signing Robert Lewandowski and Dutch winger Arjen Robben. But the bulk of the club is made up of German internationals, with more than a half dozen part of the national squad that captured the World Cup in brazil last month.

Also on display was the Bundesliga and German cup titles they won last year, and fans of the Bavarian side can't wait to see their heroes play this year, and try to add to their trophy case.

"I hope Schweinsteiger can play and also Lewandowski and Neuer," Bayern Munich fan Carsten Bode said.

"I hope they will win the league again, I think we are going to be better than Dortmund. I think Guardiola will establish a new style of playing," Bayern Munich fan Robert Heinfeldner said.

Runners-up open season vs. Leverkusen on Aug. 23

The runners-up the last two Bundesliga campaigns, Borussia Dortmund also held an open scrimmage for their fans. More than 20,000 supporters wearing in black and yellow applauded and cheered on their heroes.

Coach Juergen Klopp will be looking to break the Bayern jinx and try and see his squad win their 8th Bundesliga crown this year. But that could depend on the status of midfielder Marco Reus, who is rumoured to be leaving for rivals Bayern Munich, or possibly English Premiere League club Liverpool.

"For every BVB fan it is of course sad if one of the top performers, like Marco Reus leaves Borussia. That would be for us, and for me personally, a disaster. But we have seen in the past with (Mario) Goetze and (Robert) Lewandowski that it is nothing, and the same goes for other clubs too," Borussia Dortmund fan Hannes Berg said.
