伊拉克人在战乱地区重建生活

2015-04-01来源:和谐英语

Calm is finally returning to much of Iraq's Salahuddin Province after months of violence. Islamic State fighters overran much of the area during the summer. Iraqi government troops only recently managed to retake many of those areas.

Now Iraqi families are trying to rebuild their lives.. and they hope the lull in fighting becomes permanent.

Hundreds of families are returning to their homes after Iraqi government forces pushed out the Islamic State militants in different parts of Salahaldin province.

Iraqi military commanders say the families are returning after the announcement that Iraqi forces retook control of the strategic Al alam district of the province

The Iraqi military says the reclaiming of the key district will encourage more displaced families to return to their homes in the province and allow them to breathe a sigh of relief after months of instability.

According to calculations by the Salahaldin local government, the percentage of families returning exceeds 65%, and more families are coming back on the daily basis.

Most of the families are heading to Al Alam district, one of the largest districts in the province.

One of the residents who remained during the presence of IS says that as soon as the militants arrived, they announced through loud speakers that they would not harm civilians. But a few days later they began to take the males away and either detain them or execute them.

She added that the IS militants also destroyed many houses belonging to people who occupy government positions or are members in the Iraqi security forces. She says her son was among the people who were taken by IS.

One of the residents who is on his way back home says that they escaped from the area to avoid IS and to save his family from the possibility of being used by IS as human shields during fighting in the area.

Many local officials who are returning say that Iraqi forces retaking the districts of Al Alam, Al Dour and Albu Ajeel clearly indicates that IS extremism will never last. They praise the efforts of the Iraqi security forces and the Shiite militias in retaking control of the area.

Iraqi officials and political experts agree that the return of the families to their homes is a brave step. They say that it will encourage the Iraq security forces and the Shiite groups to accelerate their advances towards other provinces.
