美洲国家首脑会议周五在巴拿马揭开序幕
US President Barack Obama and Cuban leader Raul Castro may 'interact' with each other at the two day Summit of the Americas which kicks off in Panama City today.
Over 30 leaders will be attending the summit. This is the first time since the suspension of its membership in the Organization of American States in 1962, that Cuba has been invited to attend the summit. US President Barack Obama landed in Panama City a few hours back.
The overarching theme of the Summit is "Prosperity with Equity: The Challenge of Cooperation in the Americas." The first-ever presence of both the Cuban and US leaders at a summit has drawn lots of attention. The summit comes in the backdrop of improved relations between Cuba and the United States. The White House said a formal bilateral meeting between President Obama and Cuban leader Castro hadn't been arranged but they might meet.
