In retaliation for the attacks, France fighter jets bombed Islamic State positions in Syria Sunday. The raid destroyed an Islamic State command post and a training base.

France's Defense Ministry says fighter jets dropped 20 bombs on Islamic State positions in their de facto Syrian capital, Raqqa. The first target was a command post which was also used for jihadist recruitment and ammunition storage. The second target was a training base. The operation was conducted in coordination with US forces. It involved a dozen fighter jets, 10 of them fighter bombers.The jets took off from the United Arab Emirates and Jordan.

President Francois Hollande has denounced the Paris attacks as an "act of war", and vowed to hit back "without mercy". The French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle is to sail Wednesday, and is expected to arrive at the Gulf in mid-December.
