The Russian Defense Ministry has summoned the Turkish military attaché over the incident.

It said in a statement that  Russia expresses deep concerns about what it calls Turkish "provocations", and warned about "the potentially disastrous consequences from Ankara's reckless actions towards Russia's military contingent fighting against international terrorism in Syria".

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said he would issue a statement later, but emphasized, "We want to solve the tension with dialogue."
