This week's attacks in Istanbul and Jakarta, are just the latest in a string of ISIL related attacks around the world.

These attacks are really becoming common, you start to  see some troubling trends. First it appears that almost nowhere in the world is off limits.

In the Middle East away from ISIL strongholds in Syria and Iraq attacks have hit Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Kuwait.

Moving towards Africa ISIL related groups have targeted Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Cameroon and Nigeria.

Moving towards Europe Turkey, France, Denmark and the UK have all been targeted.

Across the Atlantic in the US attacks have hit Pennsylvania, New York, California and Texas and to the north Canada has faced attacks from terrorist claiming allegiance to ISIL.

Continuing west Australia and Bangladesh have both been hit.

The attacks are often on so-called soft targets-public places full of civilians with low security.

A few examples - In Egypt the target was a hotel, in Paris a concert hall, cafe and football stadium. In Yemen and Saudi Arabia the targets were Mosques.

One thing ISIL has changed, the goal for them is not necessarily a large scale attack. Sometimes, they will target a single person.
