IS controls large area in Iraq. Thus the country is one of those countries that suffered most serious humanitarian crisis. According to EU data, in 2015, about 1.2 million people applied for asylum in 28 member countries. Most of them are from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. Now let's visit a refugee camp in Iraq to see the humanitarian crisis there.

Deebaka refugee camp, located in northern Iraq.

Over 6,000 homeless people are waiting here, to go back home town. Half of them have just been rescued by government forces from regions controlled by ISIL. The rest have been living here for about 2 years.

People in charge here say, the camp is overcrowded, short of housing and supplies.

"The biggest problem at the camp is the shortage of houses; the refugees have no place to live. So we hope other countries and organizations can help us to build more houses to receive more refugees. The capacity of the camp is limited with only 1,000 makeshift houses," said Razkar Obaid, Deebaka Refugee Camp.

People rescued from ISIL controlled areas suffer from mental trauma, and are in urgent need of psychological counselling. However, professionals are hardly seen here.

UN estimates, over 30 thousand refugees will arrive at the camp in the coming weeks. That amount, far way out of the camp's capacity.

Stating from January of 2014, over 3.3 million Iraqis left home due to conflicts. Camps have been set up to accommodate them. UN reports has that, over 11 million people in Iraq are in need of humanitarian aid, accounting for about one third of the total population.

Some scholars believe, the humanitarian crisis in Iraq is the left over of US invasion into the country and its following wrong policies. Chaos in Iraq leave vacuum for ISIL to thrive. The organization occupies large area of Iraq territory, and the general public pay heavily for this.
