China's State Council said on Wednesday that the country has approved a blueprint for medium-to long-term railway construction.

According to the plan, main railway routes will connect large cities, to push forward economic upgrade.

In addition, the central government will increase investment to build railways in China's central and western regions, to speed up the development of these areas.

The plan also gives easier market access to encourage private and foreign investments.
