Describe a person who you think wears unusual clothes.

  You should say:

  Who this person is

  What he or she does

Why you think the clothes he or she wears are unusual

And explain how you feel about this person

A person I know who wears unusual clothes is an artist friend of my father’s who has a studio in 798 art district, Beijing. He also has a workshop on the outskirts of the city, actually. Anyway, artists usually tend to be quite cultured, and also quite eccentric in their tastes. He wears very colourful clothes, extremelly high quality too, and very baggy trousers. He has a collection of different pairs of glasses in all sorts of crazy colours and shapes. He also wears a very unusual style of shoe, which is a bit like a medieval pointed slipper. His coats are usually long with high collars and patterns, very unique designs, and he also likes to wear hats. The kind of hats you often see in American films from the 1940s and 1950s. This man usually spends most of his time sitting in his studio, drinking tea and chatting to visitors. When he’s not working on a new piece of artwork or sculpture, that is. I feel good about this person. I mean, I always feel good when I’m with him. Sometimes we sit in his studio chatting about art, life, music and things for many hours. He always has interesting views and opinions on things, and I find these arty people quite fun to be around. They think a bit less conventionally that most people, and often challenge generally accepted opinions and notions, and I find this really interesting. He can be quite intense, though, and forceful in presenting his views. This can be a bit much sometimes, when you’re not really in the mood.

  1. Do you think online shopping is a good trend?

In general yes, I think it’s a very good trend, as it’s so easy and convenient. However, it does sort of take away the pleasure of actually going into shops, trying things on, looking at things in person. I think that this is a shame, as shopping can be fun and interesting and you also get exercise when walking around! It’s nice to grab a coffee and shop with a friend and chat as you wander around a mall or shopping street.

  2. Are there any differences between men and women’s preferences about clothes?

There are certainly differences. Men and women usually have very different fashion tastes. In general, I think women care more about clothes and looks and image than men. Men tend to be more relaxed about this, prefer plain colours and simple designs, whereas women tend to be more adventurous in their clothing styles, and also have a wider range of different styles to choose from.

  3. Do you think clothes will influence one’s mood?

I think clothes can certainly have an influence on how one feels, yes. Sometimes if you wear brighter colours, you tend to feel happier and more positive. If you wear more somber and darker colours, you tend to be more serious. I think styles also make us feel different. One obvious example is how you might feel in sporty clothes, compared to very formal clothes. Or how a girl may feel in a dress compared to a pair of jeans. So, moods and clothes are very closely related, I’d say.
