Former champion to miss Olympic opportunity

(BEIJING, March 19) -- Former Chinese Olympic diving champion Hu Jia will definitely miss the Olympics in August as he has decided to not attend the last Olympic diving selection trial in Hefei, Anhui Province.

The fate of the 2004 Athens Olympic 3m springboard champion has raised eyebrows in a country filled with diving hopefuls.

Big names, including Qin Kai, Wang Feng, Guo Jingjing, and Wu Minxia will take part in the trial, according to media reports.

But for the men's 10m platform event, only Huo Liang showed up to compete in Hefei. His partner, Lin Yue, will miss the tournament due to exhaustion.
