Cuba, Belgium sign sports accord

HAVANA, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Directives from Cuba and Belgium signed on Thursday in Cuba's capital Havana a sports collaboration accord to promote and strengthen bilateral interchanges in this sector.French Community Sports general director in Belgium Michel Daerden and the director of the Cuban Sports Institute (Inder) Christian Jimenez signed the accord.The accord will promote relations between athletes and teams to participate in bilateral and multilateral competitions organized in both countries. It will also promote the interchange of officials, coaches and sports experts.Daerden told Cuban media that Belgium wants to strengthen sports ties to improve the competitive level in many sports disciplines."We have a lot to learn from you since you win many medals in different sports," said Daerden.Meanwhile, Jimenez said the accord also aims to strengthen relations in the sports education sector.The signing of the accord was attended by Belgium's ambassador in Cuba, Claudia Maesschalck, Cuban athletes and Inder's vice presidents, Roberto Leon Richard and Angel Iglesias.
