Czech goalie Cech believes he will play Euro despite injury

PRAGUE, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Czech soccer goalkeeper Petr Cech believed the face injury he suffered during training will not prevent him from playing the Euro championships in June, Cech said on Tuesday.

Cech was injured during Sunday's training of Chelsea, the English team he plays with.

English newspapers speculated that Cech's season is over after an accidental "horror clash" with defender Tal Ben Haim whose studs badly cut Cech's face.

Cech, 25, needed 50 stitches in the gashed face and cosmetic surgery, according to the Czech news agency CTK.

However, Cech hoped that if things go well he could start a special training in two weeks again.

The Czech team is to play its first match at Euro against co-host Switzerland on June 7.

Cech has had an unlucky season. At first, he could not play because of an injured leg and he has just recovered from an ankle injury.

He has already been playing with a special protective helmet since early 2007. In October 2006, he suffered a serious head injury in a Premier League match.
