Finns eager for tickets to Beijing Olympic Games

HELSINKI, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Although 10,000 quota tickets to Beijing Olympic Games in August were already sold in Finland, sport-loving Finns still tried to get more tickets for the games, Finnish broadcasting company YLE reported on Wednesday.

"Threats and rumors of boycotts and demonstrations appear not to have blunted the appetites of sport-loving Finns for the world's premier sporting event," YLE said.

The ticket quota for Finns has been increased to about 12,000 with room for negotiation of additional places for popular events such as the javelin throw.

Finnish famous javelin thrower Tero Pitkamaki was selected by the Finnish Olympic Committee to take part in Beijing Olympic Games

"The javelin throw takes place in the evening, and there'll be nearly 400 Finns waving the blue and white cross flag (in Beijing)," YLE quoted Marko Pitkanen, Production Services Manager of the Finnish Travel Bureau as saying.

"Finns don't allow politics to confuse the issue. Finland has a sports-minded public that knows how to make the distinction between sport and politics. It seems that Finns have come down in favour of sport," Pitkanen said.
