BRASILIA, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Gustavo "Guga" Kuerten's loss on Monday in the first round of the Masters Series in Monte Carlo was not surprising to the player.

The Croatian, Ivan Ljubicic did not intimidate Guga, but the Brazilian just did not have the legs and stamina to put up a good fight. Guga stated that the objective of his appearance in Monte Carlo was to remember the good times as a professional tennis player.

"I am here for the pleasure of being on the court and nothing else. It is great, not only being here, but also to remember everything that I have gone through there," said the former No. 1 of the tennis world. Guga won the Masters Series of Monte Carlo in1999 and 2001.

The game in Monte Carlo was the first for Kuerten on European soil after having announced his retirement from the game. In his loss, the Brazilian was only able to win three sets. The scores were 6-1 and 6-2 in favor of the Croatian and only lasted 52 minutes.

In his farewell tour, Guga has put together of record of four losses and one victory. The Brazilian still has left on his farewell tour the tournament of Barcelona, the Roland Garros and the Stuttgart tournament.
