Cuban judokas travel to Miami for Olympic tickets

HAVANA, May 5 (Xinhua) -- The Cuban men's and women's judo teams traveled on Monday to Miami, the United States, to participate in an Olympic qualify on May 7-11.

Cuba's women's judo participants include gold medalist in Rio de Janeiro-2007 Driulis Gonzalez in the 63-kg category; world champion Yurisel Laborde (78 kg), and the Yanet Bermoy (48 kg).

The team also includes Yurisleidis Lupetey (57), Yalengis Mestre (52), Yalennis Castillo (70) and Idalis Ortiz (over 78 kgs) and they are all coached by Ronaldo Veitia.

The men's judo team is headed by Yordanis Arencibia (66) and Oreidis Despaigne (100), silver and bronze medal winners respectively, in Rio de Janeiro's Judo World Cup.

The men's team also includes Yasmani Piker (60), Ronald Girones(73), Oscar Cardenas (81), Jorge Benavides (90) and Oscar Braison (over 100), all coached by Justo Noda.

Cuban judokas already qualified for the Olympics include Gonzalez, Laborde and Bermoy in the women's squad, and Arencibia and Despaigne in the men's team.
