Doucoure response to Robles: I will be faster

(BEIJING, June 16) -- Former French World Champion 110m hurdler, Ladji Doucoure, has promised to run faster than new world recorder holder, Dayron Robles.

Doucoure competed in the French Championships on June 15, 2008 - his first summer run in an injury-hampered year but believes he can return to the form which saw him win the World Championships in 2005.

Injury at a tournament in January led to him missing the indoor World Championships in March this year.

Dououre told L'Equipe in France that Robles has been sharp recently so it was no surprise to see him break the world record. He praised Robles' impressive start and running rhythm. However, he believes he can run faster than the Cuban athlete and can break his new record.

"I can't promise an exact time, but I believe that I will be faster," he said.

After several months' recovery, Doucoure is almost free from injuries and said his main aim is to get in shape for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

"I'm fond of challenges, I'm eager to succeed… every athlete will suffer from injuries or doubt himself/herself sometimes. However, I told myself that I can make it once again," he added.

When he was asked if he wants to win the title at Olympic Games, Doucoure said: "I'm working on it."
