Yip met with difficulty as early as the first round of the tournament, when she had to fight hard to score a two-game victory over Gu Juan of Singapore. Meanwhile Xing cruised past her rival Anu Nieminen of Finland 21-13, 21-12.

In the match against Xing, Yip was not in good form. After scoring the first point of the first game, Yip never led again on the scoreboard and lost the game 13-21.

Game two was a similar story to the first game. Yip completely lost her aggression and made lots of mistakes, which cost her the game 13-21.

Xing will advance to the quarterfinals and take on Pi Hongyan from France, the No. 3 seed, on Friday.
