27 aces can't help Roddick move up at Wimbledon

(BEIJING, June 27) -- No. 6-seeded Andy Roddick was eliminated from Wimbledon after his second round match against world No. 40 Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia on June 26. It was the worst All England Club performance of Roddick's career.

Roddick ruled himself out of Wimbledon after 186 minutes. Even though he served 27 aces throughout the match, he had four double faults and lost all eight of his break points. Tipsarevic eventually ended the match with a 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, 7-6 victory to advance to the next round.

A powerful first serve by Roddick in the opening set left the Serbian no chances to break service. After the score went to 6-6, Roddick's skill helped him take the first set. The two players were neck and neck in the following set. Each held his own service in the first ten games, but in game 11, Roddick seemed a little bit in a hurry to finish the game and lost his service. Tipsarevic took the second set 7-5.

Tipsarevic would go on to take the third set as well by successfully breaking service.

The second break point came in the fourth set. Roddick failed to capitalize on three set points and wound up ruling himself out of the All England Club.

A frustrated Roddick told reporters after the match: "I pretty much choked it. You want something so bad, you squeeze too tight. I didn't make anything happen tonight. Zero, zero, zero. I played horrific shots on break points. At big moments, I blinked."

Tipsarevic's perseverance and insistence helped him win the match. For him, beating the former top world player was enough to prove his potential in tennis. "This means the world to me," Tipsarevic said. "I'm just glad that I won and Serbia will have more representatives in the men's singles draw."
