(BEIJING, June 29) -- Playing on Centre Court on Day 6 of Wimbledon 2008, second seeded Jelena Jankovic of Serbia initially struggled, but eventually defeated, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark in three sets on Saturday.

According to sports.cn, this was Jankovic's first encounter on the court against 17-year-old Wozniacki, 2006 junior Wimbledon champion.

In the first set, things did not look good for Jankovic, who was broken twice by her 31 seed opponent. Although Wozniacki missed five set points, she was able to take the first set 2-6.

However, she was unable to hold on to her lead, as Jankovic picked herself up in the second set, breaking her rival right from the beginning. Against a 2-0 game lead, the teenager struggled heroically to keep up, but was unable to hold Jankovic off. The thrilling set ended 6-4 in Jankovic's favor.

With precise shots, the Serb kept Wozniacki running across the court. In the decisive third set, with a heavily bandaged knee, Jankovic was able to use her veteran skills to clean up, taking the set 6-2, winning the match and putting her into the final 16 at Wimbledon.

Jankovic will see Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn on Monday.
